Stock Lightnings run real rich.  The exhaust tips turn coal black very fast. 
I had good luck with using Ceramabryte on my exhaust tips.  

I use a bug cleaner sponge ( a spomge wrapped in textured nylon ) with the Cerambryte to clean the tips

The Stock Exhaust Tips are Ceramic Coated Mild Steel. 
They are tough to keep clean no matter how much Ceramabryte and Elbow Grease you use. 
Some other Lightning owners have good luck with Mothers Metal Polish or Blue Magic Metal Polish.

There are after market Exhaust tips available for the Lightning as well.
